La Granja de San Ildefonso from Segovia
The Royal Palace of La Granja is in the Real Sitio de San Ildefonso, a few kilometres from Segovia at the foot of the mountains, and its gardens and fountains draw visitors from Madrid all year round. It is often combined with Segovia on the same day.

- Within the province almost everything converges on the city of Segovia: the hospital, Guiomar station and public offices. Public transport links the capital well with Madrid but the villages poorly with each other, and from the north-east or the Tierra de Pinares getting to the hospital or catching an early train is hard without a car.
When demand peaks
- Long weekends and trips from Madrid (weekends, long weekends and Easter): Segovia and La Granja are among the most common day trips from Madrid. On long weekends and at Easter the old town and the area around the aqueduct fill up, and return pickups in the late afternoon all coincide.
- Winter in the mountains (December to March): With snow, the Navacerrada pass and the Alto del León may require chains or close, and the AP-6 tunnels are usually the safest way through to Madrid. Trips to Barajas and Guiomar are best planned with extra margin.
