Segovia is the province of Castilla y León closest to Madrid: Guiomar reaches Chamartín in under half an hour by high-speed rail, and Barajas is just over an hour away via the AP-61 and A-6. That creates two things at once: airport transfers for residents, and day trips to the aqueduct and La Granja for visitors from Madrid who would rather not park in the old town.
Segovia is the province closest to Madrid: Guiomar reaches Chamartín in under half an hour, but it is four kilometres from the aqueduct, so a road connection is all but essential. The day trip is a service in its own right here.

The city, La Granja and El Espinar live very close to Madrid, with the AP-6 tunnel and the Guiomar high-speed station as their exits; Cuéllar and the Tierra de Pinares look more towards Valladolid, and the north-east — Sepúlveda, Riaza, Cantalejo — is a land of small villages that reach Madrid by the A-1.
The city of Segovia holds the hospital, the high-speed station, the provincial offices and an old town of narrow streets perched above the Eresma and Clamores rivers. It generates both departures of residents towards Barajas and Madrid and arrivals of visitors who come for the day between the aqueduct and the Alcázar.
La Granja de San Ildefonso and El Espinar, together with San Rafael and Los Ángeles de San Rafael, sit at the foot of the mountains and hold many Madrid second homes. Trips here are weekend and bank-holiday runs, visits to the palace and gardens, and residents who work in Madrid or fly from there.
In the north-west, Cuéllar is the hub of Segovia's Tierra de Pinares, an area of resin pine forest, timber industry and irrigated farming, with Coca castle not far away. It lies halfway between Segovia and Valladolid, and many residents have their reference hospital in the capital and their most convenient railway station in one city or the other.
Sepúlveda, with the Duratón gorges, Riaza, at the foot of the Ayllón range, and Cantalejo make up a north-east of small, scattered villages, with weekend rural tourism and little public transport. For the hospital and the high-speed station they depend on the city of Segovia, a long way off on local roads.

Segovia has two serious ways of reaching Madrid: the high-speed train from Segovia-Guiomar station, on the Madrid–Valladolid line, which reaches Chamartín in around half an hour, and the road on the AP-61 and through the AP-6 Guadarrama tunnel, entering Madrid on the A-6. For Barajas the difference lies in the connection: the AVE ends at Chamartín and you carry on by Cercanías or metro with your luggage, whereas a car with a driver leaves from home and drops you at the terminal, skirting Madrid on the M-40 without going through the centre. Segovia's mountain villages live right next to Madrid: El Espinar and San Rafael have the AP-6 and the Guadarrama tunnel on their doorstep, and La Granja de San Ildefonso chooses between the Navacerrada pass, shorter but a mountain road, and the detour through Segovia and the AP-61. For Barajas there is no direct public transport from either: the regional train and the coach drop you in Madrid and force you across the city with luggage to the terminal. Segovia General Hospital, south-west of the capital beside the Ávila road, is the reference hospital for the whole province, and for much of it an appointment begins with a long journey: from Cuéllar it is {{ruta:cuellar-a-hospital-general-de-segovia:km}} and about {{ruta:cuellar-a-hospital-general-de-segovia:min}} on the A-601, and from Riaza or Sepúlveda, on the N-110 and local roads, much the same. Village buses go to Segovia's bus station, not to the hospital, and on timetables that rarely fit an early appointment. It can be done, and it is one of the most popular day trips from Madrid. The high-speed train drops you at Segovia-Guiomar, outside the city, and from there a car with a driver that waits at each stop solves what public transport does not cover: the run up to the aqueduct, the hop to La Granja de San Ildefonso for the palace and gardens, and the trip to Coca castle, in the Tierra de Pinares, with no convenient bus from Segovia or Madrid. Accommodation in Segovia takes in more and more guests without a car: they arrive by AVE at Guiomar, a station on the outskirts far from the aqueduct, or by air at Barajas, on the other side of the mountains, and look for a way up to an old-town hotel, to La Granja or to a rural house in Riaza or Sepúlveda. The property can offer the transfer as one more service of the house: it is booked in the guest's name with the train or flight number, the driver waits with a name sign, the price is fixed before booking and the invoice goes to the property or the guest. Segovia is a province of connections: Segovia-Guiomar station is outside the city and from La Granja, Cuéllar, Riaza or Sepúlveda it is reached by car; Barajas lies on the far side of the mountains and of Madrid, via the AP-61, the AP-6 tunnel and the M-40, with no direct public transport; and at weekends the city and La Granja take in the Madrid getaways, with night-time returns. A Spanish private hire vehicle may only carry out pre-booked services: it cannot pick up passengers in the street or wait at ranks. That is why everything goes through advance booking, with the price fixed before the trip and the service paperwork issued beforehand.
The big apps do not cover Castilla y León the way they cover Madrid or Barcelona. In most towns in Ávila, Burgos, León, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid and Zamora there is no Uber, Cabify or Bolt with the same coverage. It depends on the town. A Spanish private hire authorisation covers intercity transport, while urban trips — those starting and ending in the same town — are reserved for taxis unless a licence covers them. Where we can do it, the booking form prices it like any other trip; where we cannot, we tell you straight away and why, before you fill in any details.
The earlier the better, especially for early flights. For airport transfers we recommend booking the day before; same-day requests depend on availability and always require advance booking.
When it says “closed price”, yes: VAT included, fixed when you confirm, and it would only change if you alter the route, add stops or there is a long wait, and you are told first. There are two cases where the screen says something else: an “on request” vehicle is confirmed before anything is charged, and if you pick a driver's bid you pay that price on its conditions (no time change and no refundable cancellation). The price comes from our fare, or from the fare of the fleet that runs it if it has an approved one; if you don't pick anyone, you pay our fare.
If you give us the flight or train number we adjust the pickup to the actual arrival time, and the waiting included at airports and stations is more generous than at an address: the exact minutes are in the terms of service.
