Leaving from Tierra de Pinares

In the north-west, Cuéllar is the hub of Segovia's Tierra de Pinares, an area of resin pine forest, timber industry and irrigated farming, with Coca castle not far away. It lies halfway between Segovia and Valladolid, and many residents have their reference hospital in the capital and their most convenient railway station in one city or the other.

Which way it goes

From Cuéllar the road runs down to Segovia on the A-601 and then to Madrid on the AP-61 and AP-6. For Barajas the route then crosses northern Madrid on the M-40 or M-50.

From Segovia, Barajas lies beyond the mountains and beyond Madrid: the route uses the AP-61 and AP-6 and then the M-40 or M-50. The high-speed train reaches Chamartín quickly, but the airport connection at first light leaves little margin.

When demand peaks

• Winter in the mountains (December to March): With snow, the Navacerrada pass and the Alto del León may require chains or close, and the AP-6 tunnels are usually the safest way through to Madrid. Trips to Barajas and Guiomar are best planned with extra margin.

Tip: From Riaza, Sepúlveda or Cantalejo, the A-1 is usually a more direct way to the airport than going down to Segovia; say so when booking if you have a preference.

Airport pickup

For arrivals, the driver waits in the terminal with a name sign and helps with your luggage. We track the flight number, so a delay costs nothing extra within the terminal’s complimentary waiting time.

For early flights
