The city of Segovia holds the hospital, the high-speed station, the provincial offices and an old town of narrow streets perched above the Eresma and Clamores rivers. It generates both departures of residents towards Barajas and Madrid and arrivals of visitors who come for the day between the aqueduct and the Alcázar.

Which way it goes

From the city, Madrid is reached on the AP-61 toll road to San Rafael, where it joins the AP-6 and the Guadarrama tunnel, then the A-6 into Madrid at Moncloa or the M-40. For Barajas the route continues on the M-40 or M-50 without going into the centre; the alternative, the high-speed train from Guiomar to Chamartín, still leaves a connection to the airport.

Guiomar is outside the city and high-speed trains do not wait. From the mountains, the pine woods or the north-east, it is best to leave with a margin and allow for fog and ice on winter mornings.

Tip: From Riaza, Sepúlveda or Cantalejo, the A-1 is usually a more direct way to the airport than going down to Segovia; say so when booking if you have a preference.
